I Should Buy a Chromebook.

Sophisticated Cat is broke i should buy a chromebook

Really. I want one. It’s getting harder and harder to justify not owning one after seeing the newest Chromebook in action.

Stopping in Best Buy before the holidays, I was immediately drawn to the nicely designed display in the back hosting two of Google’s Chromebooks. The Acer and the Samsung were both displayed nicely with an interactive demo showcasing all the highlights of owning one. While both looked nice, the Samsung immediately won me over with its clean design and ridiculously low price. The screen has a nice matte finish and decent resolution. Combined, they produce a nice, soft image that’s easy on the eyes.

I’m a fan of Google products, and when I realized that Google Chrome was the backbone for about 90% of the work I do on a daily basis, I knew I had to at least check out the latest Chromebooks. My chunky HP laptop has almost outlived its welcome. It’s hot, loud, heavy, and the battery is almost shot. That being said, it does run games decently and is somewhat portable. But, I’m seeing it more and more as a device in limbo: fast enough for intense applications and games at home, but too chunky for true mobility and portable working.

To be honest, the only concern I’ve had when considering switching completely to a Chromebook is the lack of image editing software. Google doesn’t have a native tool like Photoshop, so I understand that it’ll be up to another third-party app to bring that functionality to Chrome. Luckily, after a quick search, I found that there are several worthy Photoshop alternatives for Chromebooks!

Obviously, PC gaming (as somewhat of a hobby) won’t be possible on these low-powered notebooks, but that’s fine. If I really want to expand on gaming down the line, that will require an entirely separate desktop build to be done right.

So, for now, I think I should buy a Chromebook. If only they weren’t out of stock.
